My earliest influences were the great street photographers of the ‘40s and ‘50s, so as a young photographer living in the south of Ireland in the ‘80s, a trip to Dublin felt like an invitation into their realm. A beautiful capital city still cobbled and neglected in places, yet aware of its own history and beauty and the need to preserve it.
Bridges have long since inspired photographers and I’m no exception. Like many before, I found myself on the city’s river banks with O’Connell Bridge and Ha’penny Bridge demanding my attention. I’ve always been drawn towards water for its possibilities of composition and reflection, and these images weren’t let down by either as a calm River Liffey mirrored the bridges’ beauty in its still waters.
